WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY LISTINGS UP SINCE THE MIDDLE OF LAST YEAR. THE PROJECTS ALSO INCLUDED DIGGING BORE HOLES (WATER WELLS) AND PROVIDING SANITATION. WE ARE NOW BACK AND ARE EXCITED TO PRESENT OUR UNIQUE FINDINGS FROM WEST AFRICA!TRIBAL ART PIECES ARE ONLY BOUGHT DIRECTLY FROM VILLAGES / CHIEFS - THEY TEND TO HAVE MINOR DAMAGE FROM USE AND OFTEN OLD LOCAL REPAIRS ARE EVIDENT. ANY SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE WILL BE POINTED OUT IN THE DESCRIPTIONS OR SHOWN IN PHOTOGRAPHS IN OUR LISTINGS. CRACKED BASE - SEE PHOTOGRAPHS. THE FINE TRIBAL GALLERY COLLECTION.
Authentic African Antiquities & Artefacts. Ashanti (Belonged to a long standing Chief).Height 55 Width 21 Depth 23. This stunning and dramatic piece, was'given' to me by the late Chief Nana Takyi in the early'90's. It was given to him by his father the previous Chief of Agimante, Aburi Mountains. Executioner' figure decapitating a prisoner, as was the tradition in bygone days of the Akan tribes / Asante Kingdom. Today, such people still exist, but perform many other services to the monarchy, such as appearing in public during certain ceremonies such as funerals, where they scare mourners!
This is a wonderfully realistically carved piece, with rich vivid colours. It has been in his private collection since the'90's, and has also been exhibited in an exhibition in the UK. It is now'on sale' to help benefit one of the projects he and Fine Tribal Galleries support - expanding and supporting a newly built infant school in a village in the Aburi mountains, West Africa.
The school is the only one around, and when we built it about 5 years ago, it was also a refuge for about 80 orphans, with a water well and basic sanitation services. Now this school / refuge has over 300 children, but sadly not the infrastructure to support that many! Much of the profit raised from this sale will go towards helping some impoverished children and villagers in Cote d'Ivoire, Liberia and Ghana. We support two orphanages, as well as several villages in West Africa to whom we supply seeds, food and clean water solutions. We also run projects which include provision of anti-Malaria medicines and nets. We have recently aided in building two schools in remote villages, along with wells and sanitation facilities. Please see photographs towards the end of our listings of some of our recent aid efforts.
