We are privileged to offer this absolutely masterful Jugendstil brooch. It has, without doubt, some of the finest detailing we've ever seen in a piece from this era and locale. Jugendstil was the name given to the Art Nouveau movement as it was in Germany (this piece is probably from Pfzorheim) in the early 1900s. The brooch was tested for metal purity and showed positive for silver (900 to 925) with a 10K yellow gold wash. The central stone tested positive for natural Madeira Citrine on a Presidium Gem tester. The 2 fiery opals were inconclusive. They didn't test as glass, but the Presidium does not have a specific "opal" category. The color in all three gemstones is remarkably bright and vivid.
SIZE: 1.25" L X 2" W. Might benefit from a professional cleaning which we did not attempt. The clasp is an early security "C" clasp. It doesn't have locking mechanism but is designed in such a way that the pin doesn't escape the clasp. The detailing in this brooch is amazing - there is all the hammered work, the sinuous veins in the curved portions and the tiniest of swoops and curves.
Thank you for visiting our listing. We're happy to answer any and all questions. It will be sent boxed.
