THE BOZEMAN TRAIL: Historical Accounts of the Blazing of the Overland Routes into the Northwest, and the Fights with Red Cloud's Warriors. By Grace Raymond Hebard, E.

Brininstool, with Introduction by General Charles King. From the library of noted Montana artist Fra Dana (bookplate). Original maroon hardcover cloth bindings, with gilt lettering on spine; rough cut page edges; Gilt topedges; Vol.

I: 346 pages of text. II: 306 pages of text including an index. Illustrated by 43 photographs, drawings and sketches, as well as a folding map at the rear of each volume.

Both volumes are in excellent, clean, tight condition; spines and bindings are tight and books appear fresh as new and not opened for reading. The lower page edges near spine of each volume are slightly discolored from the red ink of the cover, but the small area does not affect the text.

(I noticed that this discoloration was a condition of several other sets listed on abebooks) No writing but each has a lovely bookplate with the name of the noted artist Fra Dana. Vol I has the remnants of a newspaper article pasted on but now removed. Recounts the federal government's attempt to open a road north from the Oregon Trail through the Powder River country, hunting grounds of the Sioux, in the late 1860's.

Containing previously unpublished narratives, this work has served as a valuable reference tool for students of the Northern Plains. The item "THE BOZEMAN TRAIL, Routes Into NorthwestVol I & II Rare Montana History FINE" is in sale since Wednesday, December 4, 2019.
