EARLY DATED BINDING IN VELLUM. A FINE EXAMPLE OF THE FIRST BIBLE. WITH A PRINTED TITLE PAGE. TEXTUS BIBLIE, 582 leaves, 48 lines, black (gothic) letter, double columns, headlines on recto of leaves, first leaf blank except for the two words of title (obscured by ink). Early illumination at each beginning initial.

MULTIPLE LARGE INITIALS ILLUMINATED IN UNUSUAL COLOURS, particularly in orange and reds, some purple, blue and different greens. Many early manuscript notes in a contemporary hand. Additional leaves in front and back with watermarks (crown/DM, & Ochtina).

Embossed pigskin over original wooden boards with remnants of brass clasps remaining. Extraordinary dated binding (rebound 1570) wonderfully tooled and panelled. Appearing to be of the Apostles.

The text is important not only as an incunabula, but this is a "Fontibus ex Graecis" as listed at. End of Revelation along with.
