George Orwell's classic, Animal Farm, was published immediately after WWII. Readers need to be aware of the political times Orwell lived in when he published his iconic book on a topic many considered evil, following the downfall of Adolph Hitler's Nazi Germany. The book relates to social control, a pure-study into fascism and the philosophy behind socialism that delves into right and wrong, social control, race and its outcome.

This particular book belonged to Dr Adam E. Lewis, known for his collection of historical Americana books, manuscripts and artifacts. Lewis was also a friend of George Orwell and may have received this book as a gift, though it does not contain Orwell's signature.

Of note is the 1st edition, but also the actual first printing, which was done by Kingsport Press in Kingsport, Tenn. Because of the sensitive nature of Orwell's topic, Harcourt, Brace first released the book through Kingsport Press, but when it became popular, Harcourt managed its printing, publication and distribution from New York. This is a RARE 1st Printing. The actual number of copies printed by Kingsport Press is unknown, doubtful it surpassed 500 copies, hence the pricing.
