Bavarian General Bernhard Erasmus von Deroy, very rare watercolor portrait
The Commander of the 19th Infantry Division in Laurent de Gouvion Saint-Cyr's Bavarian VI Corps, in the night of 17/18 August 1812, (first Battle of Polotsk) he led his division to take the village of Spas by assault. Though hit in the abdomen by a musket ball during this attack, von Deroy continued to lead his troops into the battle. He died of this injury on August 23rd 1812 and was buried at Saint Xaver Church in Polotsk. Provenance: inventory sale of a noble castle by Bamberg, Bavaria. Measurements: UNFRAMED: 16.0 cm x 13.2 cm / 6.3" x 5.2" inches FRAMED: 25.0 cm x 20.0 cm / 9.8" x 7.9" inches. Technique: watercolor on paper (oval).
