For sale is an exceptionally rare, and first issue First Edition of Sketches by Boz, by Charles Dickens. Published by Chapman and Hall, London, 1839. The full suite of plates by Cuikshank here present.

The plates are in the earliest state. Bound in fine original diced tan calf over buckram boards. Ornate tooling to the spine, and the title in gilt to a black morocco label. Externally it remains pleasing order.

There is trivial surface rubbing in places, and small loss to the title label, but this is to be expected. The hinges are firm and the gutters intact. Internally it is delightfully clean to the text block, and the plates lightly spotted in places, more so to the frontispiece; they are, however, cleaner than almost always encountered. Overall, we could not recommend this wonderful volume more highly; it will indeed grace any collection. Further images are also available upon request.
