Beautiful set of 3 prayerbooks , Bibles in fine bindings with original silverwork, 17th -18th century. 1 The Holy Bible , Containing the Old and New Testaments, Newly translated out of the original Tongues, and with the former translations dilligently compared and revised - London, John Bill, Thomas Newcomb and Henry Hils, printers to the Kings most Excellent Majesty, Anno Dom. Brown blindstamped leather binding, with original 17th century silverwork , double locks , 8 cornerpieces and initial'S.
On both sides - silverwork engraved with floral details - rare English church book in pocket-size: 15 x 8 x 4 cm - two text colums on each page, the red lines are drawn by hand, small letter type named'pearl'. Because of the small lettertype the text was divided in two columns , to make it a bit easier to read. Still , without glasses, Monocle or Lorgnet it was difficult to read , especially with only the light of a candle or oil lamp... B' on each cover must certainly belong to a previous owner, all the beautiful silverwork is traditionally 17th century handmade, with some simple floral designs. A very charming and absolutely rare book, wich still owns the spirit of the 17th century..

Interior a bit spotty , but mostly fesh and clean.

And the date'1734' on the inside, catches, gilt and gauffered edges, 8vo. / Les Psaumes de David... In good condition, complete, solid, fresh & clean. A very fine, luxurious example.
Online, there is another copy by the same publishers, with very comparable central medallions and clasps but less ornate.
