Beautiful set of 3 prayerbooks , Bibles in fine bindings with original silverwork, 17th -18th century. 1 The Holy Bible , Containing the Old and New Testaments, Newly translated out of the original Tongues, and with the former translations dilligently compared and revised - London, John Bill, Thomas Newcomb and Henry Hils, printers to the Kings most Excellent Majesty, Anno Dom. Brown blindstamped leather binding, with original 17th century silverwork , double locks , 8 cornerpieces and initial'S.

On both sides - silverwork engraved with floral details - rare English church book in pocket-size: 15 x 8 x 4 cm - two text colums on each page, the red lines are drawn by hand, small letter type named'pearl'. Because of the small lettertype the text was divided in two columns , to make it a bit easier to read. Still , without glasses, Monocle or Lorgnet it was difficult to read , especially with only the light of a candle or oil lamp... B' on each cover must certainly belong to a previous owner, all the beautiful silverwork is traditionally 17th century handmade, with some simple floral designs. A very charming and absolutely rare book, wich still owns the spirit of the 17th century..

Beautiful Little prayerbook,'Officium', in fine gold-stamped binding, with original slip-case. Printed in Venice in 1709. Officium Hebdomadae Sanctae Juxta Formam, Missalis, & Breviarii Romani Sub Urbano VIII. Venetiis, Apud Andream Poleti, 1709 - With hardback case - Excellent binding - Red title and gold friezes on the spine, golden frames on the panels, decorated edges - Text in Latin - 543 pages + 2 blank pages - With beautiful engravings, sharp & powerful - 14 x 8 x 3 cm. Interior a bit spotty , but mostly fesh and clean.

Some pages frayed, a few pages damaged, 1 page missing cornerpiece. 3 Lovely little Huguenot Psalm book , New Testament , around 1710 / 1716 - with beautiful 18th century silverwork with images of birds & hart shaped corner-pieces. Nouveau Testament & Psaumes de David (Mis en rime Francoise par Clement Marot et Theodore de Beze) - Amsterdam, J. Both covers with the following beautiful silver ornaments: central oval medallion incised with a bird dove of peace?

And flowers, heart-shaped incised corner ornaments, within outlined edges, two shaped and incised clasps with engraved owner's initials R. And the date'1734' on the inside, catches, gilt and gauffered edges, 8vo. / Les Psaumes de David... In good condition, complete, solid, fresh & clean. A very fine, luxurious example.

Online, there is another copy by the same publishers, with very comparable central medallions and clasps but less ornate. That copy is with a Huguenot provenance, which might partly explain the French language edition and the dove of peace?
