It is a scene from one of the combats between the troops (chiefly allied with France Bavarians and Wuerttembergians) of Napoleonic general Vandamme (they are depicted on the right) beleaguering Silesian town Schweidnitz (then - territory of Prussia; today - Swidnica in Poland) and Prussians defending this town (they are depicted on the left side of the River Bystrzyca). This siege began on the 3rd of February 1807 and continued until the 16th of February with subsequent capitulation of Prussian garrison.
