Fine 1824 Antique drawing George Inn SALISBURY RARE architectural sketch yard

  

I recently acquired a Gentleman's collection of 18th and 19th century drawings cleared from the library of an English country estate. This collection has been intact since the early 19th century, and is fresh to the market from a house which has been in the same well-connected family since 1780.

The work offered here comes from the collection mentioned above. This is a fine Georgian pencil sketch on heavy paper depicting The Old George Yard, Salisbury. This near 200 year old plein air drawing has been executed with no little skill, and is reminiscent of English landscape artists working during the period such as John Constable. A rare survival and worthy of further research.
