Fine &Rare Antique 19th C. Handled Cheese Basket w Open Weave Except Patina AAFA. A fine open weave 19th century cheese basket with rare high arching handle. The octagonal base with rounded top rim. Single lashed rim and interwoven high arching hoop handle. Handle is original to the basket. Exceptional and outstanding natural darkened patination. Size: 12-1/2" at widest point of base, x 12" diameter at top rim, x 12-1/2 high including handle. This is the only example I have seen with a hoop handle, in all my years in the business! I see only one break/loss in the bottom of the basket. Rare, and if you collect early baskets, a must for your collection! An American basket, not a modern imported bamboo copy.
