Henri Toulouse Lautrec (1864 - 1901) "Le Coiffeur" (The Hair Dresser) Stone Lithograph 9 1/2 x 12 3/4 inches (sheet) 13 1/2 x 16 3/4 inches (frame) Signed: Monogramed (low right in stone) Provenance: James Vigeveno Galleries 1893. Henri Toulouse Lautrec created this fabulous three color lithograph in 1893 for the "Theatre-Libre", Paris. Entitled "Le Coiffeur" or "The Hair Dresser" this was part of the edition with text in the upper left, the 1st state had no text and was out an an edition of 100. This unfolded example is in wonderful original condition with good colors and a fresh impression printed on a smooth light wove cream paper. Published by Eugene Varneau, Paris this bearing his credit line along the lower right edge just outside the plate. Catalogue: Delteil 14; Adhemar 40; Wittrock 15 ii/ii; Adriani 40 iii/iii This lithograph is printed to its full sheet size and has never been laid down or adhered to any type of board. The work has succumbed to minimal toning and incredibly minor/faint foxing which could easily be removed. Their are no tears, rips, punctures, creases or small knicks along the edges. It has been well preserved and cared for over the last 120+ years. The west coast gallery specialized in American and French artists of notoriety such as Lautrec. It has since been owned by the original purchaser until she passed away last year. The frame is original to the work from the gallery and measures 13 1/2 x 16 3/4 inches, museum glass has been added for conservation purposes. Even though this was from the later state with text, it was never meant to be kept unlike the edition of 100. The majority had been folded, lost torn and tossed making these the more rare examples today.
