Jacob Matham Sebastian Vrancx 1700 Old Master Engraving Anthony Cleopatra Rare

  
An original engraving by Jacob Matham who was contracted by the painter Sebastian Vrancx to make engravings of some of his paintings. This is a huge engraving spilt into sheets and laid on canvas. Ink tonality is good and the image is a mastery of invention and story telling.

Inscribed in Latin above and below. A genuine Old Master engraving.

It can be found in one of the new Hollstein volumes about Dutch and Flemish engravings with all the details. Matham was contracted by the painter Vrancx (the British Museum spells it Vranckx) to make engravings of some of his paintings.

Engraving on paper laid down on canvas at edges. Huge image size 51 inches by 27 inches - check the size, it is huge! It does have wear to edges of sheet and has some damage upper right which would require restotation, but overall the condition for such a large and old piece is acceptable.

Housed in its original frame behind glass which compliments the picture, 55 inches by 31 inches. ABOUT RICHARD TAYLOR FINE ART.
