VERY RARE - SCARCE FIRST EDITION - FIRST ISSUE FINE ORIGINAL MOROCCO LEATHER BINDING. ELEPHANT FOLIO 17.5" x 13" inches (LxB). 50 FINE ORIGINAL ETCHINGS - ENGRAVED PLATES. FIFTY ETCHINGS OF OBJECTS OF ART IN THE SOUTH KENSINGTON MUSEUM.

Fifth Series by RICHARD J. LANE LONDON: Published by The Arundel Society for Promoting the Knowledge of Art, 1870 [published dates: 1870]. 17.5" x 13" inches (LxB). 8 pages text, complete with 50 single sided, full page, original etchings by Multiple Artists, bound in fine 1/2 brown original crushed morocco leather binding, front board with a large gilt armorial vignette, has a crown stamped with "V" & "R" on either side in gilt, and with gilt lettering on spine. Contains fifty etchings in the South Kensington Museum'done by the students of the etching class in training as art teachers'. Tipped in highly detailed etchings of Jewellery items. Ad in a 1893 Bernard Quaritch catalogue. The fifth series is devoted to JEWELLERY ; the others represent Furniture, Arms, Pottery, Metal-work, were published in different years from 1867 to 1872. There are numerous CLOSE-UPS GIVEN BELOW.

A rare book in period original publisher's half morocco leather binding, some wear/tear, scuffing, chipping to covers, spine, ends & corners. Sporadic age toning, soiling, are clean & bright (See Scans below), the front hinge has been repaired & the binding is tight & intact. The leather is smooth & supple to the touch. Note: Spine scuffed & worn. Blank top outer corners of the first 4 text leaves chipped - no loss of text.
