Amazing rare enameled brooch/pin and pendant (convertible) by the renowned Margot de Taxco, c. Late 1940's to 1950's. Has Margot's markings that include her name, design number and her Eagle Mark 16. Excellent vintage quality with minor wear. Large in size, 2 1/2 diameter across, and a full 48 grams in weight.

Quetzalcoatl is an Aztec deity, a plumed serpent indicating the union of sky (feathers) and earth (snake). Can be viewed as a dragon. Multicolor enamel work on black background, including speckled green, blue and red. The bail for wearing as a pendant is a link of chain at the top, that drops behind when worn as a brooch.
