I almost hit the floor when I saw this at my vintage lady's shop. Never seen anything like it. Believe it could be French or English as did Elizabeth but hard to tell as have never seen anything like it. But the detail work just seems too sophisticated and fine not to be European.

I don't even know where to start. Ten pix didn't even begin to show off this gorgeous piece. It is a superfine wool and as I said a very very pale sage green; some of pix show color well on my monitor. I believe those are gigot sleeves which dates this to either early or late 1800s. And check out that collar, like a patterned gold lame aged to a rich dark bronzy tone. The buttons are tiny white enamel with what looks like birds in flight I think. It is fully lined in ivory silk with a darling little pocket with bows on both sides. It fits more closely at top and then expands to a whopping 227 circumference at the bottom!

If you want more pix don't hesitate to ask. I just cannot say enough about this piece which really does belong in a museum as it is in amazing condition. Someone must have taken care of this as no real overt flaws other than the little tiny strips that trim the collar and the sleeves are deteriorating due to the fineness of the silk but you can just remove and would never miss. May be some breaks in lace somewhere but nothing obvious and so much of it hard to tell.

I apologize about the price but I paid a fortune for it; think it's the most expensive piece I have ever bought. Don't know what came over me but some things are priceless. I would keep but I really don't go anywhere to wear this so passing on for someone else.

While great as an opera coat or for any fancy event, costume party or the like it is also an amazing piece for the theater, stage or film. Could also see it for a wedding and fabulous opera coat. You won't see another coat like this and I dare say nothing this old in such amazing condition. Could see Beyonce or Lady Gaga wearing this for some fancy event. Could also be worn by a man. I suppose it could be worn as a robe but just too beautiful not to be seen out and about! Shoulders 15 if measure just across the lace but probably go up to 20 as sleeves are so high set. Underarm to underarm across the back 18. The item "RARE Museum Worthy 1800s Pale Sage Green Fine Wool Coat Heavily Trimmed in Lace" is in sale since Friday, October 22, 2021.
